Associate professor
Dr. Yiannis Koumpouros holds a PhD in Biomedical Technology and Health Informatics, and an MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He also obtained an Interuniversity Postgraduate Diploma (MBA) in “Techno-Economic Systems” involving NTUA, University of Piraeus, University of Athens (UoA), and a BSc from the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Piraeus, Department of Electrical Engineering. He is an Associate Professor at the University of West Attica, Department of Public and Community Health, and has served as an Adjunct Faculty at the Hellenic Open University, as a Lecturer at the University of the Aegean, Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, and as an Adjunct Professor at TEI of Piraeus, Department of Automation. Mr. Koumpouros is also a Professor/Instructor at the National Center for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA) in Project Management and Administration topics, as well as at the Vocational Training Institute of EKDDA in (a) Project Management and Administration, (b) Health Service Management, and (c) Biomedical Technology Management.
Mr. Koumpouros is the founder and Director of the Digital Innovations in Public Health Research Laboratory (DigInHealth) at the University of West Attica, Department of Public and Community Health (diginhealth.uniwa.gr).
With extensive experience in hospital administration and healthcare policy-making, he has held positions such as Chairman and President of the Board of Directors at the General Pan-Arcadian Hospital of Tripolis, Member of the Board of Directors and General Manager at the BIOIATRIKI Group, Director of Development and Strategic Planning at the EUROKLINIKI Group. He has a long-standing background in organizational management and has worked as a consultant and Director of Research and Development in numerous companies and organizations. For several years, he has been a scientific collaborator-researcher at the Biomedical Technology Laboratory of NTUA, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and has also worked at the NCSR “Demokritos,” Institute of Materials Science. Additionally, he has been a founder and shareholder in various companies focusing on telematic applications and ICTs. He has been a regular member of the Board of Directors of the Developmental Anonymous Company of the Municipality of Peristeri and appointed advisor to the Mayor of Peristeri and appointed advisor to the Exhibition Center of the Municipality of Peristeri.
His main research interests include telehealth, mobile health, assessment of assistive and supportive technologies, biomedical technology, technological innovation development for people with special needs, ICT application in health, education, and social networking, health systems design and management, as well as health policy-making and management.
Dr. Koumpouros has extensive experience in acquiring, coordinating, managing, and organizing community funds for research and development projects, having participated in over 40 such projects. He is a Research Associate at the “ATHENA” Research Center and an evaluator and independent expert for the EU on e-health and for Greece in numerous developmental and research projects in both the public and private sectors. He has served as an independent evaluator (Peer-Reviewer) for the EU in numerous funded projects across Europe and as an evaluator of investment plans falling under the Development Law for the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT). He is also a member of the EU’s list of experts for limited invitations on various thematic units.
Dr. Koumpouros is also responsible for the World Health Organization in the development and cultural adaptation of the Greek version of the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0).
For several years, Dr. Koubouros has been:
- Chairman of the 6th Permanent Committee of Experts, Ministry of Development, General Secretariat of Commerce, General Directorate of State Supplies.
- Chairman of the 5th Permanent Committee of Experts, Ministry of Development, General Secretariat of Commerce, General Directorate of State Supplies.
- Regular member of the Supreme Advisory Technical Council, Ministry of the Interior.
- Regular member of the Information Society Evaluation Committee for various projects and invitations (e.g., ICT4Growth, Administrative Reform, etc.).
