The purpose of this postgraduate course is for students to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical training in order to critically understand and adopt modern language teaching approaches in connection with Digital Media and, more generally, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

In particular, students are expected to:

  • Critically review international research in the field of language teaching through Digital Media and understand its reframing within the Greek educational context.
  • Connect the introduction and application of Digital Media in language courses with broader issues such as the new economic reality of globalization, the knowledge society, the new literacies that education must cultivate, and the emerging skills required in modern workplaces.
  • Understand and interpret the systemic requirements and particularities involved in the use of Digital Media in the teaching process, especially in language education.
  • Comprehend the broader relationship between Digital Media and the new forms of literacy that prevail in society, which are essential to permeate curricula, language knowledge, and teaching practices.
  • Develop the necessary strategies for the effective and creative use of Digital Media in language and, more generally, humanities education.
  • Gain awareness of the importance and potential of available digital resources, online environments, and artificial intelligence, and how these can be creatively utilized in teaching language and humanities courses.
  • Critically “read” and evaluate the main paradigmatic categories of educational environments, linking them to the broader historical, political, and educational contexts that drive their development and ongoing transformation.
  • Familiarize themselves with essential elements of instructional design and the creation of educational activities and micro-teaching scenarios in language and humanities subjects, effectively organizing learning environments guided by the pedagogical use of Digital Media within contemporary approaches to teaching and learning.

  1. Web 2.0, interactive systems, repositories of learning objects, collaborative platforms and writing environments, MOOCs, and online communities.

5.1. Applications using Web 2.0 technologies, repositories of learning objects, collaborative platforms and writing environments, MOOCs, and online communities.

  1. Instructional design in language teaching with digital technologies: Language production through learning events – Literate identities.
